Lied the Way Festival 2025

This year, Lied the Way develops into a song festival

  • Our mission with the festival is to support art song in a public way and give a platform to upcoming female song performers.

  • With the final participants concert on July 13th, we share with our community the work that has been incubating during the week and the potential of women when they are in an environment that sees, supports, and celebrates them.

  • At the end of each concert, we invite the audience to join us for a reception to meet the artists and members of our Lied the Way community.

Festival Performances

  • Wild Women of Song - July 8th at 19:00

The term “wild” is often used pejoratively to describe something that is out of control and unruly, particularly when referring to women. In this recital, artistic director Elenora Pertz and award-winning mezzo-soprano Hagar Sharvit reclaim the meaning of the “wild woman”: she who follows her intuition, celebrates life but doesn’t fear death, loves fiercely, laughs whole-heartedly, and yet knows how to bare her teeth if necessary.

  • Tarot Songs - July 12th at 19:00

Recent laureates of the Wigmore Hall, Hugo Wolf, and Lyon Chamber Music Competitions, 2024 workshop participants Joanna Kacperek and Clara Barbier Serrano return to Florence to give our Saturday night recital. In this program, songs will be paired with cards from the Tarot de Marseille and performed in random order. With the help of the audience, the order of the concert is decided in the moment, which creates a unique and collective experience. The cards may be mysterious and spiritual, but they are also, mostly, a game...and isn't it the same with music?

  • Participants Final Concert - July 13th at 18:00

We end our festival with a concert featuring the twelve duos who participated in this year’s workshop. This culminating recital shows what is possible when women feel supported, grounded and celebrated. Last year’s recital was described by a London-based audience member as “better than anything I have heard at Wigmore Hall.” You will not want to miss these 24 women on stage!
